11:20AM – 12:20PM: For Dear Life Highlights
Explore highlights of our special exhibition, For Dear Life: Art, Medicine, and Disability.
2 – 3PM: For Dear Life Focused Narratives: Alternate Realities
The works showcased on this tour ask us to consider alternate modes of practice in the realms of art and medicine, pushing back against the Western ideal of a singular genius and exclusive, disabling institutions.
Through alterity, these artists have sought new ways of healing, creation, and support that simultaneously tackle the issues of their time at large. Their works also speak to punk/queer aesthetics that many artists and activists embody. Ranging from performance, sculpture, drawing, and writing, they promote radical notions of navigating the world – both for the able and disabled body.
4 – 5PM: For Dear Life Focused Narratives: Community
In this tour, explore how community is present in the works of Beverly Buchanan, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Judith Scott, Mundo Meza, Frank C. Moore, Simone Leigh, and Park McArthur.
Many of the artists in For Dear Life; Art, Medicine, and Disability highlight the communities of support that hold them and influence their art practice. Through friends, colleagues, activism, and family, these artists connect with each other and reflect on the strength and support brought by these relationships.
6 – 7PM: For Dear Life Focused Narratives: Affirmations and Joy
This tour will explore artists whose creations engage with themes of personal significance, emphasizing affirmations, humor, and joy. Join us as we highlight the works of Carmen Papalia, Ray Navarro, Constantina Zavistanos, and more and explore their humorous invitation to reflect on issues of body vulnerabilities.
For Dear Life is among more than 70 exhibitions and programs presented as part of PST ART. Returning in September 2024 with its latest edition, PST ART: Art & Science Collide, this landmark regional event explores the intersections of art and science, both past and present.
