About Reflections
Reflections is an art-making workshop series designed to serve adults 55 and older.
Continuing through July 2024, these hands-on workshops and lectures recognize the many benefits—social, emotional, and physical—of engaging older adults in the process of artistic creation. Participants also have the opportunity to explore contemporary art, storytelling, and various art-making media. Refreshments and time for social interaction take place in Museum venues that take full advantage of the beautiful oceanside location and views.
Each series is made up of eight workshops that explore a variety of themes related to personal histories and identity. At the beginning of each session, participate in a gallery tour of two to three artworks currently on display from MCASD’s collection of 5,600 contemporary artworks. The gallery discussions offer stimulating input and prompts for the cohort as they think about creating their own artworks during the workshops, which provide a forum for self-expression, and developing new interpersonal connections.
Each workshop includes an investigation of contemporary art-making techniques and materials. No prior art experience is required. Transportation will be provided if required. Participants may join one session (two days) or the full series (four sessions; eight days).
Reflections is generously supported by the C.J. & Dot Stafford Memorial Trust, E. A. Michelson Philanthropy, and The Tippett Foundation.
