John Baldessari: National City
Prints by the artist John Baldessari, featuring typography and photography, are framed neatly inside this museum.

March 10, 1996 to June 30, 1996

Formerly On view at MCASD Downtown

Approximately 20 works were presented, made by Baldessari in National City, a small community between San Diego and the U.S./Mexico border, between 1967 and 1970; also featured were several photo text works and other important text paintings of the period. Additionally, new work made by Baldessari in response to his return to his hometown was also included in the exhibition. The exhibited works were unified by their reflection on the artist's sense of place, his displacement, and his biting sense of humor. Co-curators were MCASD Director Hugh M. Davies and Curatorial Coordinator Andrea Hales. Documented by a catalogue.
