Using Teresita Fernández’s Black Beach (Unpolished Diamond) 2 (2020) as a point of departure, this Focused Tour will look at how opacity is seen and utilized in and throughout Forecast Form: Art in the Caribbean Diaspora, 1990s–Today. Experience the rich, multifaceted heritage of Caribbean art, where opacity, as defined by Édouard Glissant, names the right to be obscure and impenetrable, resisting the demand for transparency and simplistic understanding imposed by dominant cultures ultimately posing an emphasis on the complexity and diversity of the region's cultural expressions.
