EXPO will celebrate local makers, creatives and more in a free two-day public event at MCASD in La Jolla. Participating organizations will include LA-based Brain Dead and San Diego internet radio station Particle FM.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, in partnership with Good Faith and Mortis Studio, will host EXPO, a two-day celebration of local creativity, on June 8 and 9.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, the free EXPO Design Market will showcase local markers, publishers, and creatives from all across San Diego, Tijuana and neighboring regions.

Both days, there will also be an EXPO After Dark event, which will feature a roster of notable musicians and DJs, as well as other festivities. Hours for the After Dark event are 6 to 10 p.m., both days.

As the sites of World Design Capital 2024, San Diego and Tijuana have a robust creative and cultural community to share with the world. It’s this sense of community that first sparked the idea for EXPO.

The first event of its kind and scale in the city, EXPO is about the exchange of ideas, networking and collaboration, and forging meaningful connections. As the official site of EXPO, MCASD is honored to be harnessing the power of contemporary art to inspire expansive thinking and an inclusive world.

“At MCASD, we are committed to fostering collaboration, celebrating creativity, and promoting inclusivity across San Diego, Tijuana, and neighboring communities. An event of this caliber especially as an art book and design market has not occurred ever in San Diego and MCASD history. It has been a dream of mine to create an event like EXPO to bring notable publishers and brands here, but also to celebrate local creators and businesses that have contributed greatly to our bi-national region,” said Anna Zeltins, Visitor Experience Administrative Assistant at MCASD, who imagined the event in collaboration with the partners. “Thanks to the dedication of our staff and our partners — including Good Faith, Mortis Studio, and many others — we are able to host this incredible showcase of our local community along with showcasing design, art, and music culture.”
