Visiones Nocturnas explores the intersection of queer nightlife and contemporary art. Works included in Visiones probe the physical trappings of these environments--dance clubs, dive bars, block parties, backyards and bathhouses --for their capacity to generate sites of queer belonging, transcendence, and resilience. Visiones Nocturnas, or night visions, borrows its title from the work of Andres Payan Estrada, whose immersive installation commemorates a decade-long photographic research project examining ephemeral facets of queer nightlife along the U.S./Mexico border. Highlighting Latina/o/e and Latin American artists from the 1990s to today, this show features works by Laura Aguilar, Martine Gutierrez, Guadalupe Rosales, Joey Terrill and others. This intergenerational presentation encompasses painting, performance, photography, sculpture, textile, collage, video, and more.
