Caledonia Curry, also known as Swoon, is an artist and filmmaker recognized for her pioneering vision of public artwork. Through intimate portraits, animated films, immersive installations, and multi-year community based projects, she explores the potential for art and the creative process to act as a catalyst for social change and interpersonal healing.
Curry’s work has adorned the walls of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Petit Palais in Paris, and Tokyo’s Mori Museum, among others, but her overarching aim remains to create accessible art that transports audiences while simultaneously shedding light on pressing social and environmental issues.
Recently, Curry has embraced an enormous creative transition as she continues to expand the dimensions of how her work can be experienced. As with Street Art and the Swimming Cities of Serenissima rafts, she is interested in how art can show up in people’s lives in surprising ways.
With her newest work Sibylant Sisters, Curry has created a long-form narrative world rooted in her life experience growing up in a family that struggled with addiction and psychological instability. Sibylant Sisters is a complex fiction that contains a full cast of characters, plot, setting, and history which can be experienced across multiple platforms, from exhibitions and performances, to books, film, and most recently an interactive Oracle Deck.
Through the Sibylant Sisters and other multi-platform stories which she is currently developing, Caledonia Curry is seeking to invoke the transformative power of ancient story forms like the fairytale and the fable, experienced in modern ways.
