Robert Irwin (born September 12, 1928) is an influential American artist recognized for his significant contributions to the Light and Space movement. His innovative work often blurs the boundaries between art and the surrounding environment. In October 2023, Robert Irwin passed, leaving a legacy of artistic contributions to the San Diego community and beyond.
Irwin’s longstanding connection with MCASD dates to the 1960s. Irwin played a crucial role in the design of the museum's downtown location, which opened in 2007. His involvement in shaping the museum space reflects his commitment to creating immersive and experiential environments, aligning with his artistic philosophy.
The collaboration between Robert Irwin and MCASD showcases the artist's dedication to transforming spaces into dynamic, perceptual experiences.
Third Thursdays are made possible with generous support from The Conrad Prebys Foundation.
