MCASD Members: We are thrilled to welcome you to our next exhibition preview of Alex Katz: Theater and Dance before it opens to the public!
Widely regarded as one of America’s most iconic painters, this exhibition invites you to take center stage, see never-before-shown sketches, bold set designs, and iconic portraits.
Your Member-Exclusive evening Includes:
RSVP by August 13.
5PM: Exhibition preview opens with a hosted bar
6PM: Remarks and performance by San Diego Ballet in Axline Court
Join us for a special performance with San Diego Ballet principal dancers Jessica Conniff and Marshall Whitely. The duo will present an exclusive preview of a world premiere choreographed by Artistic Director Javier Velasco to Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, debuting this October at the San Diego Museum of Art in celebration of its centennial year. (Fun fact: Appalachian Spring is an American ballet originally by modern dance legend Martha Graham. Paul Taylor, Katz's decades long dance collaborator, was part of Graham's dance company).
The program will also feature a captivating performance of the tango Oblivion—a perfect opportunity to experience the artistry of San Diego Ballet up close.
MCASD’s presentation is generously supported by Barbara Arledge and Nancy and Matthew Browar. The accompanying Members’ Preview is sponsored by Northern Trust.
