We’re open today from 11 AM—7 PM
We have partnered with Medium Photo to host a two-part workshop with artist Alan Nakkash.
Working in photography allowed Álvarez Muñoz to play with perception by taking advantage of the viewer’s belief in photography as a documentary medium and calling attention to our capacity to misread images. Drawing on her practice, San Diego-based photographer Alan Nakkash invites participants to explore history and themes behind Conceptual Photography and conceptual photographic practice and techniques.
Alan Nakkash is a first generation Iraqi-American photographer from San Diego, California. He is a freelance photographer who works with media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, NBC News, the Los Angeles Times, among others. He studied fine art with John Divola at the University of California, Riverside and since graduating has balanced his work between personal projects and editorial assignments. His work wrestles with the unique identity of Southern California, capturing vignettes that often focus on humanity and nature contending with one another. Alan’s work has been shortlisted for the Palm Photo Prize (2020), PHmuseum (2020), Photolucida’s Critical Mass awards (2020/2021), and was a finalist for the Aperture Portfolio Prize (2022).
Workshop space has reached capacity.
Part one of this workshop takes place on June 25, 2023, and part two takes place on July 16, 2023.
