Each year, MCASD organizes Prospect, an exhibition that highlights new artworks proposed for acquisition. As both a title and an idea, Prospect evokes searching and possibility, suggesting the ways MCASD’s collection might continue to deepen and expand. Accordingly, each iteration of Prospect reflects the Museum’s current projects and collecting priorities while building on themes and ideas found throughout the collection. 

Prospect 2026 features wide-ranging work by Sahar Khoury (b. 1973), Tania Franco Klein (b. 1990), Dionne Lee (b. 1988), Candice Lin (b. 1979), and Sergio Miguel (b. 1992). Working across diverse media—sculpture, photography, video, installation, and painting—these artists reveal new directions in contemporary art practice. Installed throughout MCASD’s collection galleries, the five potential acquisitions engage in dialogue with the Museum’s existing holdings.

Prospect 2026 is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, with funding provided by MCASD’s International and Contemporary Collectors. Institutional support for MCASD is provided, in part, by the City of San Diego Cultural Affairs.

Since 1985, the generous contributions of MCASD’s International and Contemporary Collectors, known as the Director’s Circle, has brought 145 works into the Museum’s collection. A portion of the Director’s Circle donation is allocated to the acquisition fund. This committed philanthropic circle experiences contemporary art in a tailored and personalized way.
