Visiones Nocturnas: Queer Nightlife in Contemporary Art examines artworks that explore a variety of physical environments —dance clubs, dive bars, backyards and bathhouses—as critical sites of queer joy, collectivity, and possibility. Presenting an intergenerational group of Latine and Latin American artists working from the 1990s to the present, this exhibition encompasses painting, performance, photography, sculpture, textile, collage, video, and immersive installation. Artists featured in the exhibition include: Laura Aguilar, Vani Aguilar, Juan Arango Palacios, Amina Cruz, Martine Gutierrez, Jesús Hilario-Reyes, Xandra Ibarra, Teresa Margolles, Xelestial Moreno-Luz, Andres Payan Estrada, Guadalupe Rosales, Joey Terrill, and Isa Ybarra.
Nightlife provides a space where survival and play intersect, opening opportunities for collaboration, solidarity, and creative production. Throughout this guide, we’ll explore how the artists in Visiones Nocturnas engage in the tension of these intertwining narratives.
