Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

The Preview Party celebrates the opening of our new exhibition, Visiones Nocturnas: Queer Nightlife in Contemporary Art.

Enjoy a preview of the exhibition before it opens to the public along with DJ sets by DJ Reyna and DJ Rosas, a Sunset Salsa workshop led by Queer Latin Dance San Diego, an Exhibition Ball presented by pioneer Strawberry Mehron, the San Diego Kiki Scene, and Saturn's Wish, and more! There will also be Tijuana hot dogs, Pride-themed Conchas, and drinks available for purchase throughout the evening.

6PM: Doors Open. DJ set by DJ Reyna begins. Tijuana hot dogs, Pride-themed Conchas, and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

6:30 – 7:15PM: Sunset Salsa workshop on McGrath Terrace led by Queer Latin Dance SD

The 45-minute Open Level Salsa On2 workshop will consist of two sections: Shines and Partnerwork. The lesson will break down fundamental steps with optional opportunity for more advanced body movement. 

7PM: DJ set by DJ Rosas begins.

7:30PM: Hear about Visiones Nocturnas from Amy Crum, Associate Curator at MCASD 

8:30 – 9:30PM: Exhibition Ball presented by pioneer Strawberry Mehron, the San Diego Kiki Scene, and Saturn's Wish

• Categories
  • Performance: Avant Garde Vogue ($300 prize)
    Ballroom is deserving of the art canon; show the judges why your performance is avant garde!
  • Best Dressed: Glitz & Glam ($250 prize)
    Your look is dancefloor legacy; bring it in silver, iridescent, reflective, or sequence!
  • Best Dressed: Street Wear ($250 prize)
    Incorporate a Vaquerx/Cowboy hat or boot.
  • Runway: Storm the Institution ($200 prize)
    Show the judges why everything in this museum belongs to you! Bring it chic, like a museum curator!
  • Sex Appeal ($200 prize) 
    Show the judges how well you paint (no mess allowed–we are in a museum after all). Bring a reference to the work of art!

DJ Rosas

Gina Rosas, also known as DJ Rosas, is a San Diego-based DJ and record collector known for her dynamic sets blending funk, electro, house, and freestyle, while also drawing from a rich palette of global sounds—from punk to lover’s rock. A member of the Chulita Vinyl Club (San Diego chapter) since 2016, a collective of DJs and artists curating music and art within their communities, Rosas brings a multidimensional approach to her craft. As both a DJ and photographer, her work is rooted in curating connection—aiming to bridge people through music. 

Queer Latin Dance SD

Queer Latin Dance SD was founded to create a welcoming and safe space for the queer community to learn, connect, and enjoy Latin music, with a primary focus on salsa and bachata. Michelle’s multidisciplinary movement background and love of movement inspired her to share her passion with her partner, Pat, and the queer community.
