Join the MCASD Education and Engagement team and celebrate Native perspectives, habitats, and words!

April’s Play Day is inspired by Gail Werner’s monoprints imbued with Native symbolism and Sandy Rodriguez’s reclamation of Native artmaking techniques and words. Learn the words for the flora and fauna of our region in Spanish and the Kumeyaay language of ‘Iipay Aa, while tracing and painting!

Additional Programming:

• At 11AM, join a kid friendly tour exploring Native perspectives in MCASD’s collection
• From 11AM-2PM, enjoy music, cozy up in the book nook, and free play on McGrath Terrace.
• At 12:30PM, sing, listen, and laugh at Storytime with Ms. Katia, Librarian On the Go

*Museum admission is free from 11AM – 5PM for all visitors, with Play Day offerings happening between 11AM – 2PM. No RSVPs are required for Play Day admission.

Día de juegos: Cultivando el conocimiento nativo  

Unete al equipo de Educación y Participación del MCASD el 12 de abril para celebrar las perspectivas, los hábitats y las palabras de los pueblos indígenas. El Día de Juegos de abril está inspirado en los monotipos de Gail Werner, impregnados de simbolismo indígena, y en la recuperación de las técnicas y palabras artísticas indígenas por parte de Sandy Rodríguez. ¡Aprenda las palabras para la flora y la fauna de nuestra región en español y en la lengua kumeyaay de «Iipay Aa», mientras traza y pinta!   

• 11 AM: Visita guiada para niños en la que se exploran las perspectivas indígenas en la colección del MCASD.  
• 12:30 PMCanta, escucha y ríete en la hora del cuento con la Sra. Katia, bibliotecaria itinerante.  
• 11 AM–2 PM: Disfruta de la música, ponte cómodo en el rincón de lectura y juega en la terraza McGrath. 

Play Day is a monthly event at the Museum designed for families to explore art together. Activities include special tours, hands-on projects, and at-your-own-pace guides. Centered at the Conrad Prebys Learning Center and extending into the galleries and terraces, each Play Day offers new and engaging ways to experience the artworks on display.
