Title I Funding Produces Two Year of Rich Arts Collaboration

Hoover High School is one of several schools in the San Diego Unified School District awarded Title I funding through the Learning Through the Arts program. The mission of the program is to transform school culture and climate with the arts. Participating students experience high quality arts opportunities in the performing, visual, and media arts. Teachers in the program implement rigorous arts integration strategies in partnership with artists in their classrooms to support the four cornerstones of the Title I program: improving student academic achievement, student engagement, school climate, and parental involvement.

Over the last two years, classroom teachers met weekly with teaching artists affiliated with MCASD and other local arts partners, including the Museum of Photographic Arts, The Old Globe Theater, Outside the Lens, SoCal Jazz Society, TranscenDance, and Arts for Learning San Diego. Hoover High School teachers have developed and implemented this collaborative curriculum, successfully integrating the arts into the English and Language Arts’ classrooms. Thanks to this important partnership, MCASD alone served more than 200 students in grades 10 through 12 on a weekly basis.

Join us as we celebrate these students’ achievements from Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4, when their work is on view at MCASD Downtown. For Showcase details, please visit the event page
