San Diego, CA – February 13, 2026 — The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph “Scott” Anderson as its new Chief Advancement Officer (CAO). A seasoned leader in philanthropic strategy and institutional growth, Anderson will oversee the museum’s integrated fundraising, membership, and external relations efforts as MCASD continues to expand its impact and strengthen its philanthropic base.
“We are thrilled to welcome Scott to the leadership team at this pivotal moment in our history,” said Maryanne Pfister, Board President of MCASD. “His proven track record in cultivating meaningful donor relationships and his passion for contemporary art make him the ideal leader to build our momentum. As we look to the future, Scott’s vision will be instrumental in deepening our connection while also expanding our reach across San Diego and beyond.”
As Chief Advancement Officer, Anderson will lead all aspects of fundraising, including individual giving, membership, planned giving, and special events, which all support the Museum’s ambitious exhibition schedule and educational initiatives. His arrival comes as the museum enters a new phase of strategic planning, focused on long-term sustainability and increasing access to its world-class collection of contemporary art.
“I’m honored to be joining MCASD at a time when its mission is especially vital,” says Anderson. “When I first visited many years ago to see the Maya Lin exhibition, I recognized the institution’s commitment to presenting work that challenges assumptions and advances meaningful cultural dialogue. The collection and exhibitions continue to demonstrate how contemporary art illuminates the issues of our time and elevates artists as essential voices shaping cultural discourse. I look forward to working with the staff, board, and supporters to strengthen the relationships and resources that sustain the museum’s impact and advance its long-term vision.”
Anderson joins MCASD from RedLine Contemporary Art Center in Denver, Colorado, where he served as Director of Development and was responsible for building and scaling RedLine’s fundraising program by expanding individual giving by 230% to over 700 annual donors. With more than 20 years of experience—raising over $50 million to advance arts, culture, and education—he brings expertise in running major gift campaigns, building donor pipelines, and executing integrated marketing strategies.
Anderson will officially assume his role in March 2026 after relocating to San Diego from Denver.
