MCASD's Film Curator Neil Kendricks Offers Sneak Peek of alt.pictureshows '12

Part film curator and part filmmaker, Neil Kendricks is a guru of the silver screen. Throughout the year he visits film festivals across the country, painstakingly plotting to bring the very best selection of this year's short films to alt.pictureshows, MCASD's annual film festival. Elizabeth Chaney Collaboration with MCASD Teen Art Council

During spring 2012, San Diego/ Tijuana-based artist Elizabeth Chaney collaborated with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Teen Art Council (TAC) to design and implement “A Night of Forks & Film.” This public teen program invited 50 San Diego teens to an artist-curated dinner to discuss issues raised by the film Isaac Julien: Ten Thousand Waves, a nine-screen video installation that explores the movement of people across countries and continents and meditates on unfinished journeys.

An MCASD Mascot? You Bet!

This summer, the Nationwide Museum Mascot Project (NWMMP) will start and end its 2012 Summer Tour at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD). The tour kicks off Sunday, June 3, where the mascot will greet visitors at MCASD La Jolla and direct them to the Sculpture Garden (the galleries will be closed for installation), and then travel downtown via public transit to greet visitors at MCASD Downtown in the afternoon.

Check out the Doodle 4 Google State Finalists at MCASD Downtown!

Beginning today through September 30, you can see artwork by the top 10 California finalists in this year's Doodle 4 Google competition. Entries are featured in the display windows inside One America Plaza at the corner of Kettner and Broadway. One of the four national finalists was 12-year-old Herman Wang of West Covina, who will receive a $5,000 scholarship for college from Google.
