SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22 > COMMUNITY DAY
Celebrate MCASD's monumental 75th anniversary with free admission from 11 AM to 5 PM at MCASD La Jolla. The day kicks-off at 11 AM with the opportunity to hear the new David C. Copley Director & CEO Kathryn Kanjo and Director Emeritus Hugh M. Davies discuss the history and future of the Museum in a conversation that will include artist Kim MacConnel, and MCASD Board members Christopher Calkins and Dr. Charles G. Cochrane. The discussion will be moderated by Derrick Cartwright, Director of University Galleries and Professor of Practice at the University of San Diego.
Complimentary architectural tours that will take you from the Ellen Browning Scripps home to renderings of the upcoming building expansion will be offered on the hour. A pop-up park in the Museum’s ocean-view parking lot will offer DJs and live music throughout the day, casual food truck fare, communal picnic tables, and art-making activities for all, and guests can enjoy a hosted lemonade stand all day and birthday cupcakes in the afternoon. Three stations will offer the chance to create works of art inspired by iconic pieces from the Museum’s permanent collection such as Nancy Rubin’s Pleasure Point and Ellsworth Kelly’s Red Blue Green.
UC San Diego students in the Museum Exhibition and Programs class will lead guests on an interactive tour of The Uses of Photography: Art, Politics, and the Reinvention of a Medium, and the Museum’s X Store will offer MCASD Members a 25% discount.
Community Day is made possible thanks to the Audrey S. Geisel, San Diego Foundation/Dr. Seuss Fund.
