The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will present Margaret Noble:  44th and Landis at its downtown location from August 9, 2012 to January 20, 2013. As part of MCASD’s ongoing Cerca series, which highlights the work of regional artists, Noble’s mixed media installation and performance charts a psychological path through San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood, where the artist grew up.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SAN DIEGO ANNOUNCES GET FAMOUS WITH THE GREEDY ORGAN ART CONTEST

Submissions Due June 10; Winner Will Be Featured in Future Advertising Campaign that Promotes the 25 and Under Free Admission Program

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) announced the “Get Famous with the Greedy Organ” contest today, inviting people ages 25 and under to submit their original art for the chance to have their work displayed at a showcase event and be featured in future advertising.

The contest is part of the Museum’s “Feed Your Greedy Organ” initiative, designed to create awareness of its program that grants free admission to visitors 25 and under, thanks to the generous support from Qualcomm Foundation.

Collectors Group Acquires New Works for MCASD By Spencer Finch, Catherine Opie, and Jack Whitten

Works Voted on at Annual Selection Dinner, Featured in Prospect 2012 at MCASD La Jolla

San Diego, CAAt the 2012 Collectors’Selection Dinner on Wednesday, April 25, MCASD’s International Collectors and Contemporary Collectors voted to purchase new works for the Museum's collection: a luminous overhead sculpture by Spencer Finch, Rome (Pantheon, Noon, June 14, 2011); a keystone work by celebrated photographer Catherine Opie, Burnt House from Burlington and Ninth Street (1990); and a precocious abstract canvas by seasoned New York artist Jack Whitten, Chinese Sincerity (1974).

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego To Host 2012 Biennial Art Auction on May 30 in La Jolla

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will host its eighth Biennial Art Auction in La Jolla on Wednesday, May 30 at 6:30 PM. The biennial auction is one of MCASD’s most popular and exciting events and will feature a live and silent auction of artworks donated by internationally recognized artists and emerging contemporary artists. Lydia Fenet, senior vice president and director of strategic partnerships for Christie’s New York, will preside as auctioneer.

Former San Diegans Bequest Major Works of Art to City’s Two Largest Art Institutions

SAN DIEGO—A private art collection amassed over more than 30 years is returning home to San Diego, bringing to the city masterpieces of minimalism and of German Expressionism. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and The San Diego Museum of Art are both the recipients of a major bequest valued at more than $40 million from the late Dr. Vance E. Kondon and his wife Elisabeth Giesberger.
